On invitation, I visited the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in the city of Plzeň on 29 September 2025.
The faculty is located in a modern building equipped with high-tech laboratories and state-of-the-art research facilities.
At the heart of the faculty is its professional scientific base, where research is conducted in the fields of:
🔬 DNA and peptides
🧬 mechanisms of combating cancer cells
🦠 interactions with viruses and bacteria using natural bioactive compounds
I would especially like to highlight a promising direction — the study of bioactive compounds found in medicinal mushrooms.
The faculty hosts a modern Biomedical Center that brings together experts from around the world. Its unique laboratories enable research on the effectiveness of medicinal mushroom extracts on human cells affected by various types of cancer. This opens the door to understanding which fungal compounds may be most effective, for example, against skin cancer or prostate cancer.
🌍 We live in an extraordinary time, when it is possible to look beyond the horizon of science to help people remain healthy, happy, and active. And in this future, medicinal mushrooms are taking on an increasingly important role.
